As OnlyJohn , a 3-D mixed-media artist, my creative odyssey connects my former profession of carpentry and home renovation with my enthusiasm for music, nature, and the cosmos. In this latest endeavor, I am experimenting with slate, wood, stone, and various tiles as canvases for my dimensional compositions. I begin by layering a loose pattern of acrylic and/or tempera paint onto the surface. The hues are usually inspired by the varied music I have playing, while working in my studio. Then, with a gentle mist of water, I temporarily surrender control. I allow the natural flow to guide the paint as I co-create the evolving composition with brushes, points of a pin...even with my breath. I enjoy art as an exploration of creating in the Now.
